Amma is a proud plant mom! She currently has 13 plants: Aishah, Neela, Kyoshi, Josefina II, Ako, Curly, Sokka, Joaquin, Gilly, Ceca, Guri, Opal, and Ellen. Most of them are in the succulent and cactus family. Her oldest plant is Joaquin, a succulent she got when she first graduated from undergrad in 2019. Joaquin has been with her through the ups and downs, good, bad, ugly, and very ugly. He looks his age, but he is still as adorable as he was the day Amma got him.
She is very protective of her plants and even gets a friend to take care of them when she goes on long vacations. During those vacations, she asks for weekly updates about how her plants are doing (yes, she understands that asking for updates is too much). Her former roommate, a close friend from college who usually took care of her plants, told her that she could not bring any more plants home, but now she is free to get more. She hopes to get two more and name them after her nephews.
Each one of her plants happily lives in a hand-painted pot. Amma takes care to make the pots match the personality of each plant. It brings her joy to see her plants thrive in their pots. She hopes these pots bring joy to a new home!
